IMC Networks unveils protocol-independent wavelength division multiplexer
IMC Networks, manufacturer of physical layer connectivity, optical networking and bandwidth management solutions for local, wide and metropolitan area networks, has announced its new iMcV-WDM solution, a two-channel, speed and protocol-independent wavelength division multiplexer.
A pair of iMcV-WDM modules allows two individual wavelengths to share one fiber pair--full-Duplex data travels on 1310 nm and 1550 nm--which virtually doubles the capacity of the installed fiber, claims the company.
The protocol-independent iMcV-WDM module simplifies network administration by supporting all popular communications protocols. For example, campus area network managers can deploy the iMcV-WDM solution to combine legacy ATM OC-x traffic and newer Gigabit Ethernet traffic over the same fiber pair.
"At times when budgets are being cut in organizations large and small, IT management needs to leverage the investment in existing network installations," explains Michael Dailey, president and chief executive officer of IMC Networks. "The iMcV-WDM module enables significant cost savings by doubling the network capacity and by combining multiple protocols."
As a passive, protocol-independent wavelength division multiplexer, the iMcV-WDM solution complies with a wide range of communications protocols including Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbits/sec), SONET/ATM (OC-3, OC-12, OC-48), FDDI, ESCON, T1/E1, E3, DS3 and Fibre Channel.
The iMcV-WDM modules are easy to configure and operate by matching the proper wavelengths (1310 nm and 1550 nm) to the appropriate inputs and outputs. Modules are hot swappable and install into the iMediaCenter Series, which includes 2-, 8- and high-density 18-slot configurations to meet a range of installation requirements. iMediaCenter Series chassis features an embedded SNMP management agent that enables network managers to monitor the installed modules and link status, as well as chassis environmental statistics, including temperature and voltage level.
Available immediately, iMcV-WDM carries a list price of $ 800. For more information about IMC Networks (Foothill Ranch, CA), visit the company's Web site at www.imcnetworks.com.
