Infinera adds 1RU 7100 PSX-3S to 7100 Series packet-optical transport line

Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) has expanded the 7100 Series of packet optical transport systems it acquired along with the rest of Coriant with the Infinera 7100 PSX-3S platform. The 1RU metro packet-optical transport platform is designed to support access and aggregation of diverse metro Ethernet traffic as well as provide 10-Gbps and 100-Gbps WDM capabilities.

Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) has expanded the 7100 Series of packet optical transport systems it acquired along with the rest of Coriant with the Infinera 7100 PSX-3S platform. The 1RU metro packet-optical transport platform is designed to support access and aggregation of diverse metro Ethernet traffic as well as provide 10-Gbps and 100-Gbps WDM capabilities.

The 7100 PSX-3S offers a packet switching capacity of 376 Gbps. The inclusion of WDM capabilities obviates the need for 10-Gbps transponders, Infinera points out. Zero-touch provisioning and built-in support for Ethernet service activation testing streamlines service provisioning, Infinera adds.

“Traffic growth at the network edge continues to drive demand for more efficient and flexible metro transport solutions,” said Uwe Fischer, Senior Vice President, System Solutions Business Group, Infinera. “The 7100 PSX-3S is the latest addition to our comprehensive portfolio that spans the edge to the core of the metro network.”

Infinera sees operators deploying the 7100 PSX-3S in either a standalone configuration or paired with the company’s mTera metro transport platforms. Applications include support of business Ethernet, cloud connect, fixed broadband aggregation, and 3G/4G mobile backhaul. The platform is in customer trials and commercially available.
