Orange has added spectrum capacity to its MainOne subsea cable via its XTS-3600 platforms from Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN), the communications technology provider says. The service provider also improved the resiliency of its services, Infinera states.
The 7,000-km MainOne submarine cable connects West Africa with Europe. The submarine network links into Senegal, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Portugal. It became operational in 2010 (see “Main One subsea, fiber-optic cable links West Africa to Europe”). The branches into Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire are relatively new (see “TE SubCom to add branches to MainOne submarine cable system”).
Infinera says the additional spectrum capacity leverages the capabilities of the fourth generation of its Infinite Capacity Engine (ICE4) as well as the company’s Instant Bandwidth capacity expansion technology. “This deployment with Orange reinforces our ability to consistently deliver the highest performance in terms of submarine capacity and reach with our industry-leading Infinite Capacity Engine technology,” said Nick Walden, senior vice president, worldwide sales at Infinera. “We remain committed to helping our customers cost-effectively keep pace with demand while lowering total cost of ownership.”
