Brocade details role in Pacific Wave 100G undersea cable network
Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) has provided details of its participation in the 100-Gbps Pacific Wave undersea cable network. The submarine fiber-optic network connects the U.S. Pacific Northwest with Tokyo, with onward connectivity to other points.
The Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) and Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP) announced service activation on Pacific Wave late last month (see "Pacific Wave opens 100-Gbps trans-Pacific R&E fiber-optic network"). This included the fact that Brocade had supplied its MLX routers.
Brocade now reveals that it has supplied its MLXe Core Router as the interconnection, peering, and routing exchange fabric for the submarine network. CENIC will locate the routers at primary points of presence in Sunnyvale and Los Angeles, CA; Seattle; Chicago; and Tokyo. In addition to providing service to Pacific Wave's direct clients, connections also will be provided to Internet2, the United States Department of Energy's ESNet, the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's N-wave, and commercial cloud providers, Brocade says.
