euNetworks Group Ltd. says it has purchased Vienna-based Onstage Online GmbH, a fiber-optic network services company that operates in that city. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition adds duct and sub-duct fiber network infrastructure in Vienna to euNetworks’ Austrian footprint.

Founded in 1995, Onstage operates a duct and fiber metro network installed under the city’s pavement and in its sewers. The infrastructure is designed in redundant network rings, with each backbone node connected to at least two other network nodes for route diversity. The fiber network directly connects to 16 data centers in the city, euNetworks adds.

“The acquisition of Onstage adds further uniqueness to our fiber-based infrastructure,” said Brady Rafuse, euNetworks’ CEO. “Our long-haul network connects into Vienna. The addition of Onstage to euNetworks adds to our metropolitan network portfolio and immediately delivers diversity and reach in this growing market. Vienna is an important internet hub, both for proximity to Germany and also as a hub for eastbound traffic to Asia and the Middle East. This is a highly complementary business to euNetworks and growing our presence in Austria was a logical next step in our development. The combined footprint will deliver immediate value to both existing customers and our new customers that we welcome from Onstage.”

Approximately 90% of Onstage’s revenue comes from dark fiber, wavelengths, or Ethernet type services, which maps well with euNetworks’ operations, according to Rafuse. Rudolf Lesiak, managing partner of Onstage, will join euNetworks as part of the asset integration process. Onstage founder and Managing Director Robert Dornetshuber will retire once the integration process completes, according to euNetworks.
