Comcast Business says it has received a 10-year contract from the United States’ Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to create Commercial Ethernet Gateways that will provide Ethernet connections to the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) in the Northeastern U.S. The business arm of the U.S. cable MSO will supply Ethernet virtual private line (EVPL) services to fulfill the contract, which is worth $9.3 million.
DISA provides enterprise network and IT infrastructure to support the worldwide requirements of the Department of Defense. The contract is part of a DISA initiative to convert its 17,000 legacy, point-to-point public switched telephone network (PSTN) circuits to Ethernet connections, an effort the Department of Defense was directed to initiate in May 2016. Comcast Business will enable this transition in Region 1, the Northeastern U.S. Overall, the initiative covers 12 regions, which comprise the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia.
“This award lets us do our part to support the nation. Transforming DISA’s network to an Ethernet-based solution will deliver a performance-based network to DISA and its mission partners,” said Ken Folderauer, Vice President, Federal Government Sales, Comcast Business. “The US Government is one of the largest IT buyers in the world. Only the very best earn their trust and Comcast Business is honored to be on that short list. We look forward to continuing to build out this incredible partnership with DISA.”
