Arelion deepens Atlanta Metro Network footprint
Arelion (formerly Telia Carrier) says it has made several improvements to its Atlanta metro network, including the addition of a point of presence (PoP) in Switch ATLANTA, Switch’s (NYSE: SWCH) data center facility within its Keep Campus in Lithia Springs, GA. Among other benefits, the enhancements reduce the need for routing through downtown Atlanta.
Arelion has added a new long-haul route that connects the Switch ATLANTA PoP, located west of downtown Atlanta in the Northeastern region of Douglas County, to its Ashburn and Dallas networks via Chattanooga. It also connects the new hub to the new Atlanta metro expansion. That expansion adds diversity to Arelion’s existing network routes into downtown Atlanta. The routes include links from Ashburn, VA via Charlotte, NC, and from Tampa, Houston, and Chicago via Nashville. Arelion now can offer five diverse long-haul routes serving the Atlanta area.
"The expansion is in response to the need and demand for high-capacity bandwidth in the region,” said Art Kazmierczak, director of business and network development, Arelion. “Our continued investment helps further establish the Atlanta metro area as one of the top connectivity hubs in the country. Specifically, the hyperscale campus expansions in Douglas County and Lithia Springs help relieve some of the strain on the legacy carrier hotels in the area without compromising performance speed, connectivity diversity, or bandwidth capabilities.”
“Having Arelion join our exascale data center ecosystem in Atlanta allows us additional options to provide our customers with the high quality, low latency and diverse network services they demand,” added Scott Gutierrez, senior vice president of connectivity at Switch.
