Ethernet and serial data multiplexer integrates fiber-optic networks

The company says the device can multiplex one 10/100-Mbit Ethernet channel and four channels of RS-232, RS-422, TTL, or Dry Contact interfaces over singlemode or multimode fiber. The company says this "one fiber," two-way communication device can double existing fiber usage.

The company says the device can multiplex one 10/100-Mbit Ethernet channel and four channels of RS-232, RS-422, TTL, or Dry Contact interfaces over singlemode or multimode fiber. The company says this "one fiber," two-way communication device can double existing fiber usage.

The company says its multiplexer provides an efficient means of integrating networks with devices such as remote terminal units and controllers, with both Ethernet and serial interfaces, over a single fiber. According to the company, service providers can also use the TC8530 as a way to provide customers with Ethernet and serial connections. Ethernet rate control is a optional feature of the device.

The multiplexer supports distances exceeding 100 km and offers redundant power and optics, including automatic switchover features for maximum reliability, says the company. The device is available "industrial-hardened" (-40°C to 80°C) for use in extreme environmental conditions.

The unit's Ethernet port auto-negotiates at 10/100 Mbit/sec and enables rate control in increments of 32 Kbit/sec. Setup, diagnostics, and control features are accessed via serial terminals, Telnet, or SNMP management ports. The device is IEEE 802.3/802.3u/802.3x compliant.
