Metro-Optix announced that its multi-protocol bandwidth manager, CityStreamT, successfully demonstrated compliance with signaling protocols set forth by the Optical Internetworking Forum.
The Metro-Optix CityStream interoperated with equipment from 24 other optical vendors in a recent interop testing event held at the University of New Hampshire. The event was held to showcase OIF's UNI 1.0, a specification which many see as the first step toward reducing operating costs for service providers and facilitating delivery of emerging differentiated services, such as optical virtual private networks, web hosting and bandwidth on-demand. The UNI document addresses how control planes of optical devices communicate with each other to dynamically construct paths from local access points through core networks.
To complement the UNH testing, CityStream will interoperate with equipment from Alcatel, Cinta Networks, Redback Networks and Tellium at the OIF demonstration booth at SuperComm 2001. The CityStream platform will dynamically establish and tear-down optical circuit connections through a network of interconnected core, regional and metro products.
Metro-Optix is demonstrating its complete line of "protocol agile" solutions, including ATM, OC-192, and Gigabit Ethernet cards, at SuperComm 2001, booth 350 in Hall A of the Georgia World Congress Center.
