Photop announces free-space isolator

SEPTEMBER 4, 2009 -- The new FSI features high isolation and offers a significant cost advantage over traditional FSIs, Photop asserts.

SEPTEMBER 4, 2009 -- Photop Technologies Inc. has unveiled a new free-space isolator (FSI). The FSI is designed to allow forward light with specific polarizing directions to pass through it, but “isolates” the randomly polarized backward light by the polarization walk-off. The new FSI features high isolation and offers a significant cost advantage over traditional FSIs, Photop asserts.

The FSI using Photop’s proprietary technology and is environmentally stable, RoHS compliant, and cost competitive. This new FSI is patented in China and patent pending in the US for its crystal-based technology. A high-power FSI is in development as well, Photop reveals.

Photop asserts the new FSI is ideal for placement within optical transmitters for GPON and EPON applications as well as for application with pump lasers.

Photop will demonstrate the new FSI and other products at the CIOE 2009 show (Booth 552) September 6-9.
