JULY 15, 2009 -- The optical components supplier has launched a complete family of transimpedance amplifiers that enables it to address all major 10, 40, and 100G receiver applications.

JULY 15, 2009 -- GigOptix Inc. (search Lightwave for GigOptix), a provider of electronic engines for optical communications, has launched a complete family of transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) that enables the company to address all major 10, 40, and 100G receiver applications.

The new TIA family includes:

  • GX3101, a high-gain limiting TIA for 10.3-Gbps Ethernet, with a large dynamic range that enables it to support all existing 10GbE optical reaches
  • GX3110, a linear TIA with AGC for 11.3-Gbps SONET/SDH with a total harmonic distortion figure better than current available alternatives
  • GX3200, a limiting TIA for 100GBase-LR4/ER4 receiver designs with low power consumption and a compact footprint for next-generation 100GbE technologies
  • GX3220, a balanced linear TIA with AGC with bandwidth control that enables it to address the emerging 40G DQPSK and 100G DP-QPSK receiver markets

This new family adds to the company's existing TIA products: the GX3440 that addresses the OC-768 40G DPSK market, and the ultralow-power HXR4104 and HXR4112 TIA array products that address InfiniBand QDR and emerging 40GBase-SR4/LR4 and 100GBase-SR10 100GbE standards.

"These demanding new designs were possible due to the close collaboration between the GigOptix-Helix team in Zurich and the high-speed design team in Palo Alto," says Joerg Wieland, vice president and general manager of GigOptix-Helix.

According to Ovum's (search Lightwave for ) Q209 Telecom and Datacom forecast, the annual total available market for this family of products is 8.8 million units in 2009 and it is expected to grow to 35 million units by 2014. Samples are available immediately.
