SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 -- Ignis ASA (OSE: IGNIS) says it has reached a strategic alliance agreement with NeoPhotonics Corp. relating to the qualification and supply of current and future Ignis products.

Ignis says the agreement covers the company’s entire product portfolio, including planar lightwave circuit (PLC) chips, tunable lasers (likely from Ignis Syntune), optical splitters, and arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs).

NeoPhotonics designs and manufactures photonic integrated circuit (PIC) based modules and subsystems for telecommunications networks.

“We believe that this agreement will significantly contribute to us reaching our goals and help secure access to new and potentially large areas within the telecom and datacom markets. These markets experience high traffic growth due to the increasing amount of bandwidth-intensive content in the networks,” said Thomas Ramm, CEO of Ignis ASA.

Earlier this year NeoPhotonics Chairman and CEO Tim Jenks became a director of Ignis ASA.
