Xponent offers low-cost 10G MSA receiver using surface-mount photonics
MARCH 28, 2007 -- Xponent Photonics, a developer of PLC optical components, has launched its new Xtreme 10G MSA receiver with a production-quantity price of less than $50. The 10G MSA receiver, designed for short- and medium-range applications, is based on the company's proprietary Surface Mount Photonics platform and uses its high-speed PIN photodiode and an industry-leading TIA.
"Our 10-Gbit/sec receiver meets the industry's pressing need for a lower-cost alternative to existing 10G component designs," says Ramzi Sawires, director of marketing. "Our Surface Mount Photonics technology platform makes dramatic cost reductions possible by eliminating expensive packaging and alignment requirements, and utilizing standard semiconductor industry flip-chip and chip-on-board manufacturing processes."
Typical performance specifications include:
- -19-dBm sensitivity (-18 dBm guaranteed);
- 3.3-V operating voltage/55-mA supply current;
- 1,310- or 1,550-nm wavelength.
The XP7-0093 meets Telcordia GR-468-CORE requirements. It is designed for 10-Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and SONET/SDH network applications. Xponent is accepting orders to support customers' production pilot run quantities with full production scheduled for late 2Q07.
The Xponent 10G receiver is on display in Xponent's Booth #3547 at OFC/NFOEC 2007 in Anaheim, CA, March 27-29.
