Semtech Corp. (NASDAQ: SMTC) says it has begun sampling has launched the GN2256 Tri-Edge CDR with integrated differential EML driver. The CDR device targets 50-Gbps PAM4 fixed and tunable WDM, and silicon photonics optical transceivers, particularly 50G SFP56 modules for 5G wireless support applications.
Semtech says the GN2256 combines the company’s proprietary analog Tri-Edge technology with enhanced laser driver compensation to support IEEE and Open Eye MSA compliant optical module designs for operation over industrial temperature ranges. The Tri-Edge technology enables ultra-low latency, low power, and use of 25-Gbps optics, the company adds.
“With the introduction of the GN2256 Tri-Edge IC, Semtech has established itself as the leader in 5G wireless fronthaul deployments with a truly differentiated and comprehensive IC portfolio. Semtech is a one-stop shop for our optical module partners and system vendors to enable worldwide 5G wireless front haul deployments,” asserted Raza Khan, senior market manager for Semtech’s Signal Integrity Products Group.
In addition to samples of the GN2256, Semtech says it will offer a complete reference design kit (RDK) that will include complete module-level firmware.
