June 10, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- ADC has introduced its LoopStar 1600 SONET multi-service transmission system. The company says its LoopStar access systems allow service providers to cost-effectively transport and manage TDM and Ethernet services to end-user customers from a single platform.

The company says its scalable LoopStar 1600 system enables service providers to deploy customized, reliable SONET-based platforms for DS1, DS3, OC-3, OC-12, and Ethernet service delivery, as well as transport from 0C-3 to OC-192. The company says the platform's integrated, universal backplane architecture supports multiple, interchangeable network and tributary interface cards which can help to reduce costs and ease the transition to new business services. According to the company, designed for central office (CO) and customer premises environments as well as co-location points-of-presence (POPs), the platform can be deployed in a range of applications including enterprise access and transport (ADM), cell site backhaul and MSC aggregation, DSLAM backhaul, and CO inter-office transport.

"With the addition of the LoopStar 1600 to our portfolio of LoopStar access systems, ADC offers one of the most comprehensive and cost-effective SONET access platforms available to service providers today," asserts Mike Pratt, president of the wireline and wireless business units for ADC. "The LoopStar 1600 provides a broad array of capabilities and options that will help carriers deliver the services their customers want without sacrificing performance or flexibility, while at the same time minimizing capital and operating expenses."

According to a press release, ADC's LoopStar 1600 platform, like the company's LoopStar 800 and 810 systems, derives from an OEM agreement with Huawei Technologies. The terms of the agreement state that Huawei will supply equipment to ADC and assist with the creation and development of additional SONET products for the North American market.

The platform was introduced at this week's Supercomm 2005 in Chicago, IL.
