AMCC Enhances OC-48 FEC Transceiver

Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) (Nasdaq:AMCC) has announced the availability of the latest generation S3067 SONET/SDH/ATM transceiver with enhanced jitter performance and extended rate capabilities.

Featuring enhanced jitter generation of 3.5mUI, the S3067 further improves the design margin of the industry's first integrated OC-48 transceiver solution with Forward Error Correction (FEC) functionality. The S3067, targeted for next-generation DWDM applications, is capable of operating at Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, HDTV, Fast Ethernet, FDDI, D1 Video, SONET/SDH OC-48, OC-24, OC-12, or OC-3 frequencies.

The S3067 performs all necessary serial-to-parallel and parallel-to-serial functions in conformance with SONET/SDH transmission and FEC standards, according to the manufacturer. On-chip clock synthesis is performed by a high-frequency PLL, which allows the use of a slower external transmit clock reference. The chip can be used with a 155.52- to 178-MHz reference clock, in support of existing system clocking schemes, and includes a low jitter LVPECL interface, diagnostic loopback mode, and lock detect circuit.

The S3067 is packaged in a 156-pin TBGA and is currently in volume production. AMCC solution set pricing can be obtained from the company.
