February 24, 2005 Santa Ana, CA -- OE Solutions, a global supplier of high-performance optoelectronic transceivers for optical communications, has introduced its family of small form factor Optical Network Unit (ONU) transceivers for use in Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GE-PONs).
According to the company, its OBN3433F product family hews to the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Standard, supporting 1000BASE-PX10-U for 10-km applications, 1000BASE-PX20-U for 20-km applications, and a non-standard, extended link budget 1000BASE-PX20-U+ for applications beyond 20 km. The company says the transceivers feature a guaranteed sensitivity of -27.5 dBm (for the 1000BASE-PX20-U+ application), due to extremely low crosstalk (less than 0.2 dB) between the transmitter and receiver sections.
The transceivers operate over an ambient temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius and feature a burst mode transmitter turn on delay faster than 30 ns, and a turn off delay faster than 15 ns. They conform to the Small Form Factor (SFF) footprint, have a singlemode fiber pigtail, and are offered in both 2 x 5-pin and 2 x 6-pin versions.
"The major challenge was designing a high-reliability, high-performance module while remaining cost-effective," explains Mike Fukatsu, director of sales and marketing for OE Solutions. "This high-performance transceiver family will allow OEM system providers to design with extra margin, while maintaining the aggressive cost structure required for PON deployments, without sacrificing quality."
The company will be displaying the transceivers at next month's OFC/NFOEC conference, at booth 1665.
