January 14, 2002--Opto Speed today announced it has developed 2.5-Gbit/sec PIN-TIAs with single-ended and differential outputs. The modules are either available in four- or five-lead TO coaxial packages with a lensed cap or in LC or SC receptacles and are operated from a single 3.3V or a 5V supply. The differential output five-lead 2.5-Gbit/sec PIN-TIA achieves a sensitivity of -25 dBm and a dynamic range of more than 25 dB. These high sensitivity modules, which also offer a power monitor function are very well suited as basic building blocks for optical smart transceivers for a wide range of applications including OC-48/STM-16 SONET/SDH or 2.125-Gbit/sec fibre channel.
The modules comprise a high speed, top-illuminated InGaAs/InP pin photodiode with a diameter of the active area of 75 micrometers and a hybrid low noise transimpedance amplifier. Besides its differential data output, which can be (AC-coupled) loaded with 50 Ohm, the module features a monitor output, which provides a current that is directly proportional to the RMS value of the input photocurrent of the photodiode.
Sample shipment of the PX4 family of TO-can packaged 2.5-Gbit/sec PIN-TIAs begins at the end of January. Opto Speed expects to market these devices on a larger scale in the first quarter of this year. The 2.5-Gbit/sec PIN-TIAs will also be available as receiver optical subassemblies and receptacles upon request and can be delivered within two to four weeks. The PX4 family is the first result out of Opto Speed's partnership with Infomax.
