JANUARY 2, 2008 -- Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (SEI) has introduced new DWDM small-form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers.

The new SCP9FB8 series is designed to support 3,200 psec/nm and a distance of 160 km by adapting the laser driver with low chirp characteristics and optimizing the drive current. Previous 160-km transmission dispersion tolerance was 2,400 psec/nm. Conventional models can be deployed in data links with spans of up to 120 km.

"Expansion of distance is the key to fulfill the customer demand." said Ichiro Kono, general manager of SEI's Optical Transmission Components Division. "SEI is not the leading company at long-haul market but these products should expand our business opportunities."

Features of SCP9FB8 series include the improvement in dispersion tolerance, a variable decision threshold (VDT) function that reshapes the received waveform by optimizing logical judgment threshold level by way of I2C, and full RoHS compliance.

The 2.66057-Gbit/sec module provides output power of 0-4 dBm, center wavelength accuracy of -80 to +50 ppm, minimum sensitivity of greater than -30 dBm, and overload of -7 dBm.
