Hot-swappable 10-Gbit/sec. transceiver meets DWDM needs

SEPTEMBER 13, 2007 — Mitsubishi Electric released a compact, pluggable 10-Gbit/sec. optical communications transceiver, MF-10KWXF, that suits discretionary tuning for all C-band dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). The hot-swappable transceiver lowers power consumption by 40% from previous generations.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2007 — Mitsubishi Electric released a compact, pluggable 10-Gbit/sec. optical communications transceiver, MF-10KWXF, that suits discretionary tuning for all C-band dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). The hot-swappable transceiver lowers power consumption by 40% from previous generations.

The product complies with the industry standard for 10-Gbit/sec. form factor, measuring 78 × 48 × 12.6 mm. It operates between -5° and +70°C, consuming 7-W power or less. The transceiver enables multi-rate operation for SONET SDH and Ethernet. It can be set to any C-band DWDM grid frequency with a mounted optical tunable laser with low-power-consuming semiconductor modulator.

Hot swappable, the product reportedly reduces occupied substrate real estate by 70%, compared to models which use a 300-pin transponder. It can be plugged to multiple ports via edge connecting with a XFI-compliant electric connection. The device offers zero chirp and negative chirp.
