Dowslake Microsystems intros 16-channel xWDM and optical Ethernet platforms

The new products include MiniSIS xWDM 1600 and MiniSIS MTX 155.

September 16, 2004 Santa Clara, CA -- Dowslake Microsystems today announced the availability of two new system platforms in its existing MiniSIS product line, a series of network-ready system solutions for optical transport and access. The new products include MiniSIS xWDM 1600 and MiniSIS MTX 155.

MiniSIS xWDM 1600 is a 6-U, 16-slot transport system for multi-channel applications, capable of a total transmission capacity up to 40 Gbits/sec. Integrating Dowslake's multi-rate transponders, smart EDFAs, multiplexers, and other optical modules with redundant system and power supply controls, MiniSIS xWDM 1600 offers a low cost alternative for high-capacity optical WDM transport, say company representatives. It is also complimentary to Dowslake's existing 1-U, 4-slot platform, the MiniSIS xWDM 400.

MiniSIS MTX 155 is a 1-U Ethernet-over-SDH (SONET) platform. It belongs to the Multi-Service Transport Platform (MSTP) product category, allowing enterprise network or wireless operators to bring both data and voice services to the client premises. MiniSIS MTX 155 has on the transport side two STM-1 (OC-3) optical interfaces using standard SFP transceivers, connecting local services to the public SDH (SONET) networks. It incorporates a full-featured SDH (SONET) add/drop multiplexer with digital cross-connect capability.

On the client side, MiniSIS MTX 155 provides eight E1 (DS1) and four Fast Ethernet interfaces, allowing an aggregation of both traditional voice and newest Ethernet services. Through the adoption of the MSTP, enterprise/campus network service providers can provide broadband and voice services while utilizing the leased public network, minimizing capital investment and maximizing service revenue in a short term. For wireless operators, the low cost MTSP product offers a seamless transition from 2G to 3G networks.
