The T-31 omds16 optical multiplex carrier system lets operators increase fiber capacity by 16 times at distances to 88 km, without adding more fiber. The unit requires a minimum of one rack per site. Using a combination of wdm and optical amplifier technology, the device installs into a T-31 system platform. It uses boost amplifiers and preamplifiers, which enable operators to transmit from 140 Mbits/sec to 2.5 Gbits/sec. The system provides for span budgets up to 55 mi (booster and preamplifier) and up to 34 mi (booster amplifier only).
