SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 -- TeraXion Inc. (search for Teraxion) will launch the next generation of its ClearSpectrum chromatic dispersion compensation module at ECOC 2006.
The new ClearSpectrum-DCMX will boast the industry's smallest package and offer enhanced performance for high-speed metro and long-haul DWDM networks, the company asserts. It is designed to compensate links from 20 to 200 km in a single, low-loss module. The ClearSpectrum-DCMX is an alternative to dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) in cost-sensitive networks; its small footprint minimizes space and its low insertion loss (<3 dB) reduces amplification requirements. Based on TeraXion's multi-channel fiber Bragg grating technology, the compensators can be cascaded in networks up to and beyond 2,000 km.
"The combined low-loss and extended-reach features of this new platform deliver system manufacturers the design flexibility they require for future network architectures -- an important consideration that is not adequately addressed by incumbent DCF-based modules," said Dr. Martin Guy, vice president of product management and technology at TeraXion. "The market is embracing our DCMs and we have already received volume order commitments from tier-one system manufacturers," added Dr. Guy.
