AUGUST 6, 2008 -- Sunrise Telecom Inc. (search for Sunrise Telecom) has unveiled the SunLite GigE, which it asserts is the world's first palm-sized Gigabit Ethernet tester. The tool is designed to help telecom and broadband service providers meet the stringent demands of using Ethernet to deliver robust and differentiated services to their business and municipal customers. Sunrise says the SunLite GigE will fully support Ethernet network and service installation, verification, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
The SunLite GigE provides multi-stream, multi-service testing capability for installation and maintenance of differentiated Ethernet and triple-play services, and all of the needed functionality for quick and easy service provisioning, the company says. The set of tests improves productivity and lowers operating expenses by eliminating the need for multiple test sets. Network and service quality can be tested across a variety of simultaneously stressed parameters, ensuring reliable performance, the company adds.
"Sunrise Telecom has built the tiny SunLite GigE, a palm-sized tester that provides more Ethernet functionality and flexibility in one test set than other hand-held devices we've seen," said Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research. "The GigE tester should help field technicians quickly deploy any of a range of differentiated Ethernet services."
Using the SunLite GigE, field technicians can verify end-to-end transport of Gigabit Ethernet/IP traffic, transmit and analyze eight independent streams, and run test methodology based on RFC2544. Technicians can use the SunLite GigE to determine throughput, link utilization, latency, and IP connectivity. In addition, the SunLite GigE's 10/100/1000Base-T and 1000Base-X interfaces enable copper and fiber GigE testing in the same tester.
Sunrise says the SunLite GigE boots up rapidly and runs cool without a fan, delivering the long battery life required for complete installation and maintenance of metro Ethernet, IP services, and network elements including switches and routers. The test set's graphical user interface, high resolution color screen, and simple test profile creation and sharing allow technicians with limited Ethernet or IP testing experience to verify performance parameters for Gigabit Ethernet services quickly, the company concludes.
