NOVEMBER 30, 2009 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. has announced the availability of a new software release that expands field-testing capabilities for mapping 10G Ethernet LAN signals over optical transport networks. This new functionality is incorporated across the Transport/Power Blazer product line -- integrated multiservice test platforms designed to support SONET/SDH- and OTN-based transport networks, as well as packet-based services.

Available on the FTB-8130NG Next-Generation SONET/SDH Test Module and the FTB-8130NGE Next-Generation Multiservice Test Module, this enhanced support for next-gen and optical network test functions is designed to give field technicians the ability to directly map 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN signals into standard rate ODU2 containers using GFP-F mapping, as per ITU-T G.7041 standard.

In addition, EXFO says this software release also introduces a number of enhancements to the test systems’ DSn capabilities including automatic detection of DS1 and DS3 signal parameters. As DS1/DS3 testing remains a present aspect of the field technician’s day-to-day activities, this added capability will result in increased efficiency as technicians typically have to test a large number of circuits and do not always know the exact settings for each circuit, EXFO explains. Also available is the ability to use the tester in NIU/CSU emulation mode and to act as a DS1 loopback device.

Additional features also available with this latest software release also include SONET/SDH payload block and replace capability for easier troubleshooting and maintenance.

The new test capabilities are also available on the IQS-81xx Transport/Power Blazer line.
