OCTOBER 6, 2009 -- Sunrise Telecom Inc., a network test and measurement system provider, has developed a Fibre Channel testing capability for the STT Metro. Service providers can now test up to four Fibre Channel ports simultaneously, speeding up the successful deployment of storage area networks (SANs).

Fibre Channel technology is used to connect SAN services for transactional business operations such as banks, transportation and e-commerce, due to its security, performance, and stability advantages. In order to prevent costly service outages and to guarantee reliable performance, service providers are required to thoroughly validate link quality before and after installation. Sunrise Telecom maintains that its system allows the technician to verify the service-level agreement (SLA) and to perform advanced testing through the switching fabric. The high port density of STT Metro enables users to run these tests on four ports simultaneously, which reduces testing time and capital expenses.

STT Metro is targeted for troubleshooting difficult-to-detect problems such as transactional failures in signal and application levels. With the packet capture and decode feature, the system can analyze each packet, allowing users to pinpoint problems quickly, saving time during troubleshooting.

Sunrise Telecom says providing the bandwidth guaranteed on SLAs is made simpler by eliminating the trial-and-error process of determining the correct number of buffer credits to allocate. With the buffer credit optimization feature, the test set will predetermine the buffer credit allocation required, removing the guesswork and shortening installation time.

"With a growing number of multiservice lines and switches supporting both Fibre Channel and Ethernet technologies, technicians need the flexibility to test both technologies in one test set," says Alex Luo, senior product marketing manager, Sunrise Telecom. "STT Metro reduces capital expenditures and simplifies testing by providing multiservice verification for SAN and LAN deployment in one single portable unit."
