OCTOBER 6, 2009 -- DiCon Fiberoptics announces the new GP750 platform, a rack-mountable fiber-optic switch unit for automated fiber management setups in integrated test systems. Evolved from the GP700 platform, the GP750 comprises a modular design, upgraded control panel, and new Ethernet interface. According to the company, the enhancements improve performance, versatility, and reliability.

The basic GP750 chassis incorporates a control module and a power supply module that can be replaced with spares, minimizing downtime for mission-critical operations. There are also slots that accommodate up to eight standard-size plug-in units. The units are designed for hot-swappable operations and can be installed or uninstalled easily.

The new control panel includes a color display and simplified navigation buttons. Plug-and-play status is clearly shown on the screen, and selection of slots and functions is straightforward via the tiered control scheme.

The test system offers extensive remote connectivity options. Besides manual, GPIB, and RS-232 interfaces, the GP750 supports Ethernet, allowing the user to control and troubleshoot the GP750 locally or from a remote workstation.

The system's internal optical components are also updated. The new platform is designed to use the latest MEMS components from DiCon, including MEMS optical switches, MEMS optical attenuators, MEMS optical tunable filters, and MEMS optical power equalizer. These MEMS products have surpassed billions of cycles of operation during lifetime testing, allowing the new GP750 platform to perform in demanding operations for long periods of time.
