JULY 9, 2009 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (search Lightwave for EXFO) has released the FTB-7400E metro/CWDM optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR), an OTDR test instrument that can offer as many as eight wavelengths in a single test platform designed for in-service troubleshooting of CWDM networks.

By combining two one-slot FTB-7400E OTDR modules in the FTB-200 compact platform, the tester supports mux/demux testing and reduces time to locate faults in a network.

Featuring selected wavelengths from 1,470 to 1,610 nm (ITU G.694.2 CWDM), the OTDR offers a high dynamic range for complete end-to-end loss and mux/demux validation at the construction phase. It allows service providers to test from the headend without interfering with other users.

The FTB-200 compact platform also offers a CWDM-calibrated power meter for precise power readings at each wavelength of the network. Operators seeking an integrated CWDM turn-up offering can combine the FTB-7400E with EXFO's FTB-5420S optical spectrum analyzer into the newly launched FTB-500 four-slot platform.

"Our customers are always looking for ways to increase their productivity and reduce their costs. Thanks to our new CWDM OTDR, they have access to eight wavelengths in a single compact platform, without swapping modules," says Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's vice president of product management and marketing.
