NOVEMBER 9, 2010 -- EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX:EXF) has launched the FOT-5200 CWDM Channel Analyzer, a new test and measurement instrument for CWDM networks. EXFO touts the FOT-5200 as the fastest and smallest tester on the market for the installation, maintenance, and repair of any CWDM network. The FOT-5200 is being targeted at least in part at mobile backhaul activation for telcos and cable TV operators.

Multiple-service operators (MSO) need visibility in wavelength power and allocation to find the cause of possible transmission problems not related to the physical media, says EXFO. The company also notes the growth in the mobile backhaul market and corresponding increase in CWDM deployments.

Leveraging usability and speed enhancements, the FOT-5200 dramatically increases field technicians' efficiency for network testing and activation of CWDM links, EXFO asserts. The optical spectrum analyzer alternative delivers an all-in-one tool kit with an integrated broadband power meter and loss tester -- but without a complicated interface, EXFO adds. Instead, the FOT-5200 provides plug-and-play usability, displaying results in bar graphs and tables. It allows is designed to enable users to easily save and download data through USB connection.

EXFO claims the FOT-5200 is almost half the weight of its closest competitor, has 3X less volume, and can conduct accurate testing in 5 seconds, which EXFO says is 10X faster than the industry average.
