February 7, 2005 Utica, NY -- Test equipment manufacturer NetTest today introduced a new line of polarized light sources designed to work in conjunction with the Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) module of the company's existing CMA 5000 Multi-Layer Test Platform.

This new line of light sources is available in a variety of models to cover all testing needs, ranging from CWDM to long haul DWDM (1310, 1550, and 1625 nm) in both mono and dual wavelengths.

Compact and battery powered, the new light sources have been designed to reach high dynamic range when used with the CMA 5000 PMD module. A standard 1550-nm light source allows for 55 dB of dynamic range and covers most applications. An optional 64- dB light source is available to measure ultra long haul amplified links.

Utilizing the Interferometric method as recommended by the TIA FOTP-124, NetTest's patented cross-correlation technique and choice of light sources enables the company to offer what it claims is the highest dynamic range as well as fast, accurate measurements and the capability to measure PMD through EDFAs, devices that boost the signal in an optical fiber. Used in combination with the CMA 5000, the company claims the new line of light sources makes it easier than ever for operators to perform PMD tests to qualify a network.
