Dynegy Global Communications, a subsidiary of Dynegy Inc. (NYSE:DYN), announced the completion of its nationwide, optically switched mesh network. The Dynegy network spans more than 16,000 route miles and reaches 44 of cities in the United States.
Dynegy's network can transport between 2.5 and 10 gigabits of data per second. Dynegy is the first carrier to use Tellium optical switches and to deploy top-of-the-line Fujitsu dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) optical equipment in a full-scale network build-out. The network's mesh architecture provides a superior way to manage and route Internet traffic.
Dynegy's U.S. and European long-haul networks are linked via a transatlantic connection. Dynegy's European network reaches more than 22 cities in seven countries. Dynegy is continuing to strategically light and connect metropolitan area networks (MAN) to its core network through its commercial alliance with Telseon. The 18-city metro network will have 85 points of presence (POPs) and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
