Southern Photonics to demo OSA-G series at ECOC 2012
Test equipment maker Southern Photonics Ltd will unveil a new series of optical spectrum analyzers (OSAs) at the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) September 17—19, 2012, in Amsterdam. The OSA-G Series is a grating-based OSA platform engineered to capture high-resolution spectral data.
The company says the platform was designed in response to market demand for an affordable, yet high-resolution OSA for the production engineering and manufacturing environments.
Current high-resolution OSAs on the market are used as general purpose lab instruments and designed to address many different applications, resulting in features and capabilities that can add significant cost, but may never be used in a manufacturing situation, Southern Photonics asserts. The OSA-G Series focuses on the core functionality needed in this specific application, but still supports a high degree of customization during the assembly process, the company says. The result is a product tailored for manufacturing lines and production engineering at the lowest available price for an OSA of similar resolution.
The platform is designed to work across a span of commonly used discrete wavelength ranges. It will be initially available in three ranges to suit different requirements: 1 micron, 1.5 micron, and 2 micron.

Southern Photonics will demonstrate the OSA-G Series at ECOC on stand 609, at the 1.5-micron wavelength.
