Fiber-optic test system

Photodyne 17XT handheld fiber-optic power meter works with the Photodyne 7XT light source to provide testing capabilities for applications including cable-TV networks, erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, and Sonet and ATM digital systems. The power meter documents and stores information, prompts test results and uploads stored information to a notebook PC. The unit keeps selected loss and wavelength readings in as many as 800 memory locations for later recall and analysis and retains data in memory even when the unit is turned off. Equipped for six standard default wavelengths and 30 additional wavelengths in 10-nm increments, it has an optical interface compatible with most industry-standard connections. When used with the 7XT light source, the power meter has measurement capabilities at 1310 and 1550 nm from the same connector. The 17XTG power meter version uses a Ge sensor, while the 17XTI features an InGaAs sensor. Depending on the wavelength, the units can be used with most fibers, including singlemode, multimode, silica or plastic. The power meter and light source are priced from $1495 and $4044, respectively.
