New mobile backhaul infrastructure provided by Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) now serves 15 million T-Mobile customers in Poland, the systems house says.

The use of mobile broadband is spreading rapidly in Poland. In 2011 mobile broadband usage was 55%, a steady and significant increase from 20% in 2009. As a result, network operators are being challenged to provide significantly more capacity, while maintaining network performance. Ericsson says the new network it has provided will enable Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa S.A. (PTC), operator of the T-Mobile brand, to address the increasing demand for data.

Ericsson will supply T-Mobile with its MINI-LINK SP packet aggregation nodes, Ericsson SPO 1400 Packet Optical Transport systems, and IP Transport network management system products. T-Mobile will gain simple and cost-effective network migration from TDM to high-performance packet networking based on Multiprotocol Label Switching Transport Profile (MPLS-TP) with a complete end-to-end managed mobile backhaul solution from Ericsson. Ericsson is also providing deployment, support, and spare parts management services as part of the deal.

Anders Runevad, president of region West and Central Europe at Ericsson, says, "Our companies have cooperated together for 17 years. The mobile backhaul migration provides superior network quality, through a simple and scalable solution. It offers speed and reliability and meets the subscriber demands for more bandwidth and the best possible broadband experience for our customers."
