Semtech debuts Bellcore-compliant low-cap, surge protection for 10/100 Ethernet interfaces
Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC), a supplier of mixed-signal semiconductors for communications, computers, and industrial equipment, announces a Bellcore 1089-compliant surge protection for 10/100 Ethernet interfaces. These devices provide a low-cost, standards-compliant solution for lightning, ESD (electrostatic discharge) and EFT (electrical fast transient) events in telecom and datacom systems.
The new LC03-3.3 device uses Semtech's patented Enhanced Punchthrough Diode (EPDTVSTM) technology to low capacitance, clamping voltage, and leakage current at operating voltages as low as 3.3 Volts. By meeting these critical metrics, the LC03-3.3 can be used on high-speed Ethernet lines without appreciable signal degradation.
Semtech's integrated LC03-3.3 device provides protection for a single line pair. It combines a TVS (transient voltage suppression) diode with a rectifier bridge to provide voltage transient protection in both common (line-to-ground) and differential (line-to-line) mode. The LC03-3.3 fully exceeds the performance mandated by standards including Bellcore GR1089 (intra-building), ITU (International Telecommunication Union) K.20, and the IEC's (International Electrotechnical Commission's) 61000-4-2, -4, and -5.
The LC03-3.3 also compliments Semtech's SETS SONET/SDH network synchronization devices (announced in October 2000) to create a more complete system solution.
Samples of the Semtech LC03-3.3 are available immediately. In quantities of 10,000 units or more, the LC03-3.3 is priced at $2.48 each, and is delivered in EIA 481 standard tube, tape and reel packaging. The LC03-3.3 is sold in a standard JEDEC SO-8 package. The product datasheet is available on Semtech's website at http://www.semtech.com.
