Packet-optical network equipment developer Transmode says that T-Mobile Austria has chosen Transmode’s TG-Series platforms as part of an upgrade to the mobile services provider’s national fiber-optic network.
T-Mobile Austria will leverage a previously signed frame agreement between Transmode and the carrier’s parent, Deutsche Telekom. Transmode asserts T-Mobile Austria selected the TG-Series, after evaluating a variety of alternatives, based on the platform’s technical performance and quick projected return on investment.
The capacity upgrade responds to an increase in mobile backhaul and traffic demands that T-Mobile Austria says. Mobile data cards for ADSL substitution, the increasing use of smart phones and tablets, and the popularity of social media are driving this growth in capacity requirements, according to the carrier. The result is a linear traffic increase of 100% in the past few years.
"We were looking for a cost efficient and flexible solution to combine 10G and STM-16 services on the same infrastructure. We needed the new system to operate in parallel with the existing SDH network and our new IP platform,” explained Manfred Reiff, senior manager, multilayer transmission planning at T-Mobile Austria. “Transmode’s solution was a well proven technology in our parent company and T-Mobile Austria is happy to be deploying it as well.”
