Inexio taps ADVA's 100G metro technology

ADVA Optical Networking (FSE: ADV) says that German regional network operator Inexio has deployed ADVA’s 100G Metro product for regional connectivity in Germany and Luxembourg. Operating one of Europe's fastest-growing fiber-optic networks, inexio is harnessing ADVA’s 100G Metro product to respond to significant bandwidth growth from both its enterprise and residential customers.

The ADVA 100G Metro was installed by ADVA Optical Networking Elite partner Axians. A longstanding customer of ADVA Optical Networking and Axians (see, for example, "German carrier taps ADVA Optical Networking for DWDM"), inexio has benefited from the native scalability of the ADVA FSP 3000, gradually expanding its network infrastructure with customer demand. With over 5000 km of optical fiber now installed, inexio is expected to make further 100G deployments in 2014.

Since its release in 2011, ADVA says its 100G Metro product has built a strong reputation within the industry, enabling service providers and enterprises to deploy 100G technology without the associated costs of alternative coherent approaches (see “ADVA Optical Networking offers cost-reduced 100-Gbps for metro networks”).

Built on 4x28G direct-detection technology, the ADVA 100G Metro delivers four key efficiencies: cost, space, power, and spectral. These efficiencies were central to inexio's selection and deployment of the ADVA 100G Metro, according to the company. Fully integrated into the ADVA FSP 3000 platform, ADVA says that its direct detection technology can now transport data across distances in excess of 1000 km – something that was previously only possible with coherent equipment.

“Our 100G Metro technology … was a direct response to our customers who wanted to deploy a different kind of 100G technology, one that didn't exist anywhere on the market,” commented Hartmut Müller-Leitloff, vice president, sales Central Europe, ADVA Optical Networking.
