AFL targets high-density networks with Sub-unitized MicroCore 3.0 fiber-optic cable

AFL has added the Sub-unitized Premise MicroCore 3.0 to its Premise MicroCore fiber-optic cabling line. MicroCore 3.0 will provide greater fiber density in a compact and easy to manage 3.0-mm frame for data centers, central offices, and other high-performance applications, AFL asserts.
AFL has added the Sub-unitized Premise MicroCore 3.0 to its Premise MicroCore fiber-optic cable line. MicroCore 3.0 will provide greater fiber density in a compact and easy to manage 3.0-mm frame for data centers, central offices, and other high-performance applications, AFL asserts. The MicroCore 3.0 leverages a 24-fiber loose tube design to support up to 288 fibers total while maintaining a flexible form, the company adds. The result is a 400% increase in pathway capacity versus a 900-µm tight-buffered approach. The loose tube design also enables greater fiber management than stacked ribbon fiber cables, the company says. The cable’s smaller diameter optimizes data center airflow and provides greater cooling efficiency as well, AFL says. Each loose-tube sub-unit is independently qualified as a standalone interconnectivity cable suitable for direct termination with a round-boot MTP, AFL says. Each unit also could be used in complex routings of top-of-rack or side-rack installations. For more information on fiber-optic cabling and suppliers, visit the Lightwave Buyer’s Guide.
