ExteNet Systems announced it has agreed to acquire MetroFiber Co., LLC, which is doing business as Axiom Fiber Networks. ExteNet says it will expand its fiber footprint in the New York City metropolitan region through the acquisition of the fiber-optic network services provider.

Terms of the agreement were undisclosed. The acquisition is anticipated to close upon completion of the customary regulatory approvals.

ExteNet operates distributed network systems (DNS) to support the needs of such clients as wireless carriers, broadband providers, IoT companies, property owners, and communities. The company says its DNS can enhance wireless and broadband services across both outdoor and indoor environments using fiber-based distributed antenna systems (DAS), remote radio heads (RRH), small cells, Wi-Fi, Virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC), and other technologies.

Axiom Fiber Networks offers dark fiber and custom connectivity in metro New York City (see, for example, "Axiom Fiber Networks connects to Telx New York data centers" and "Axiom Fiber Networks PoPs up at 325 Hudson"). The company, which launched in January 2015, has focused its efforts on connecting to major carrier hotels to offer global service providers connectivity in Manhattan via a 20-mile, 864-strand count core network that the company says "operates within striking distance of every building in Midtown and Lower Manhattan."
