EdgeConneX, a worldwide data center services provider, says it has partnered with Community IX and its new Atlanta-based Internet Exchange, CIX-ATL, to build a connectivity node into its Atlanta Edge Data Center (EDC). According to EdgeConneX, CIX-ATL will enable ISPs, content providers, and enterprises to exchange IP traffic at several Atlanta metro area sites.

Located outside of downtown Atlanta, the 29,800-square-foot EDC was constructed to be a secure colocation facility for the low-latency delivery of content and applications to local-market consumers. Deployment of this node will allow EdgeConneX to localize traffic to the metro market, providing tenants with diverse peering opportunities.

Community IX aims to create a cost-effective, distributed switching fabric across six data centers in the area, including the EdgeConneX Atlanta EDC. EdgeConnex describes the Atlanta-area market as "peering-fragmented."

"Community IX is dedicated to improving interconnection across the Southeast and we are excited to have CIX-ATL deployed with EdgeConneX in their Atlanta facility," said Dave Temkin, Community IX's chairman of the board. "This partnership greatly expands peering in the Atlanta metro area and allows EdgeConneX customers to experience a superior Internet experience."

Until September 2018, port fees on CIX-ATL will be waived. According to EdgeConneX, the exchange is currently accepting new members.
