ADVA Optical Networking says it has partnered with FibreCo Telecommunications (FibreCo) to address bandwidth demand growth by rolling out high-bandwidth services to expand its existing infrastructure. By partnering with ADVA, the fiber network operator will leverage the FSP 3000 metro and long-haul fiber-optic network technology to offer customized connectivity services for business, government, and carrier applications.

The FSP 3000 has a modular design positioning the network for future expansion, which enables FibreCo to upgrade its clients' services based on changing requirements, says ADVA. FibreCo's infrastructure will carry 10- and 100-Gbps traffic, and include long-haul links that require no regeneration.

"This strategic partnership provides a firm foundation for the future as we help even more South African businesses unleash their full potential. With ADVA Optical Networking's flexible platform, we can respond in the shortest possible time to each and every customer demand," said Marius Mostert, FibreCo CTO. "The ADVA FSP 3000, including its advanced ROADM technology, enables us to deliver the high-speed, scalable connectivity that today's enterprises and service providers demand. Our new infrastructure delivers several key efficiencies from low latency to optimized bandwidth utilization. What's more, the support and local expertise provided by ADVA Optical Networking and Jasco Carrier Solutions gives us a lot of confidence that we'll achieve quick time to market and the highest network availability."

In June, ADVA Optical Networking revamped its FSP 3000 platform to align the platform with emerging optical metro network requirements (see "ADVA Optical Networking revamps FSP 3000 for metro networks"). The FSP 3000 incorporates the latest multi-degree ROADM technology.

The deployment will involve a 100-Gbps ROADM network carrying data over 780 km between Johannesburg and the Mtunzini undersea cable landing station. ADVA's partner Jasco Carrier Solutions will assist with deployment and maintenance of the new network. FibreCo plans to include 100-Gbps metro and long-haul links connecting additional South African cities and regions in future network expansions.
