Zayo to provide fiber-optic network routes out of Marseilles

In 2016 Zayo announced the first fiber-optic route via Lyon. Completely operational, the low-latency route is now available for 100G wavelengths, as well as dark fiber.

The second dark fiber route spans western France via Bordeaux, Zayo says. The third route links to Strasbourg via Milan and onto other European markets, including Paris, Frankfurt, London, and Amsterdam. According to Zayo, it is deploying a coherent 100G wavelength system over the existing fiber, and expects the system to be completed by year's end.

Zayo has obtained customer contracts from a global carrier, an internet services provider, and a French telecom operator for the routes, the company attests. The routes take advantage of assets acquired in 2015 by Zayo from Viatel (see "Zayo reshuffles, agrees to buy Viatel").

Marseille is a gateway and aggregation point between Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, and will provide connectivity for subsea cables AAE-1, SEA-ME-WE-5, and other cables as well, says Zayo.
