Zayo to provide private dedicated network for New Cross Pacific submarine cable

Zayo says it will provide a private dedicated network (PDN) to New Cross Pacific (NCP) US Backhaul group, consisting of Taiwan operator Chunghwa Telecom, KT Corp., China Telecom, China Mobile International, and China Unicom, to diversely backhaul traffic from its United States landing station throughout the western U.S. Extending over 13,000 km, the NCP submarine cable will connect Asian landing stations in Chongming, Nanhui, Lingang, Busan, Toucheng, and Maruyama with its U.S. landing station in Hillsboro, OR.

Zayo (NYSE: ZAYO) says it will provide a private dedicated network (PDN) to New Cross Pacific (NCP) US Backhaul group, consisting of Taiwan operator Chunghwa Telecom, KT Corp., China Telecom, China Mobile International, and China Unicom, to diversely backhaul traffic from its United States landing station throughout the western U.S. Extending over 13,000 km, the NCP submarine cable will connect Asian landing stations in Chongming, Nanhui, Lingang, Busan, Toucheng, and Maruyama with its U.S. landing station in Hillsboro, OR.

According to Zayo, the undersea cable will deliver capacity that can scale as much as 80 Tbps, and is expected to land in the next few months. The 4,300-km PDNprovides dark fiber and a complete scopeof managed fibers. Zayo says the majority of domestic bandwidth to and from a trans-Pacific destination will be routed across one of the new West Coast cable landing stations. With connectivity options throughout North America, NCP's US Backhaul group will have connectivity from the landing station across the West Coast, including San Jose and Los Angeles, through the PDN backhaul network.

Zayo already has a presence in Southern California, as it was chosen in August to provide dark fiber to broadband provider Consolidated Smart Systems, extending its broadband service capabilities in metro Los Angeles (see "Zayo expands fiber footprint in metro Los Angeles for Consolidated Smart Systems").

"This milestone agreement leverages our dense fiber connectivity across the West Coast to cable landing stations and provides the group with a high-capacity solution that we can turn up quickly and efficiently," said Jack Waters, Zayo's CTO and president of Fiber Solutions. "Zayo's recent acquisition of Electric Lightwave this year has been pivotal, enabling Zayo to provide a high-capacity solution of this scope and scale."

"With Zayo's managed facilities, NCP US Backhaul will create opportunities for our customers to reliably access popular North American PoPs and Data Centers in May 2018," said an NCP US Backhaul group representative.

ViaWest said earlier this year that it plans to offer access to the New Cross Pacific submarine cable system at its Brookwood Data Center in Hillsboro, OR, when the undersea cable network opens for service (see "ViaWest to offer access to New Cross Pacific submarine cable via Oregon data center").
