FiberLight expands fiber-optic network to improve DC and Ashburn, VA connectivity

FiberLight, LLC says it will begin a fiber-optic network expansion project to improve connectivity between Washington, DC, and the Ashburn, VA, area. This new construction will meet the increasing need for additional capacity to the Northern Virginia and DC metro area by building on and enhancing FiberLight's existing network footprint.

This new construction will meet the increasing need for additional capacity to the Northern Virginia and DC metro area by building on and enhancing FiberLight's existing network footprint, the fiber-optic network services provider says.

FiberLight will be able to offer customers diverse connectivity and advanced options to reach Data Center Alley in Ashburn, the world's largest concentration of data centers, once the new fiber-optic network overbuild is finished.

According to FiberLight, enterprises, carriers, partners, government agencies, and content companies can use this route for regional connectivity, avoiding crowded fiber-optic routes with the new fiber availability. Additionally, organizations with expanding bandwidth demands can meet their need for more dark fiber networks and Ethernet availability in support of cloud enablement.

With data center expansion expected to continue, and a more than 35% increase in the Ashburn area alone, FiberLight says its focus on delivering critical fiber infrastructure, including build-to-suit optical and dark fiber connectivity, will continue, and reliable data center to data center connectivity will take priority.

FiberLight's service areas run from Washington, DC, down to the south coast of Florida, across to Texas, and back to Washington, DC, via Atlanta. In total, FiberLight has a footprint that includes over 1.7 million fiber miles in over 44 metro areas across the U.S. The company operates over 17,000 backbone access points, and 1,700 on-net locations.
