Coriant said that Spanish neutral internet exchange ESpanix has chosen its Coriant Groove G30 Network Disaggregation Platform for a high-speed optical backbone network to connect key data center sites throughout Madrid. Coriant's platform has been initially deployed to support 100G services between the ESpanix Intersion PAR and ESpanix NODO data center locations, says the optical transport systems vendor.

According to Coriant, ESpanix selected the Coriant Groove G30 for its density, ultra-low power consumption, and plug-and-play modularity. The platform will enable ESpanix to deliver affordable 100G interconnect services, and decrease leased fiber costs through developments in DWDM transmission efficiencies and spectral utilization.

ESpanix was founded in 1997 as a non-profit association for network operators, and operates carrier-neutral facilities and a peering platform that has a peak of exchanged aggregate traffic over 500 Gbps. It offers local and international traffic exchange services to more than 100 networks, including enterprises, large service providers, internet content providers, and access providers in Spain, says Coriant.

The Groove G30 platform has a flexible plug-and-play modular architecture and features the new Coherent Multiservice Sled to give ESpanix a straightforward approach to high interconnect speeds, such as 400G client-side and 600G line side transmission (see "Coriant introduces Coherent Multiservice Sled to improve Coriant Groove G30 capabilities"). This eliminates the need for forklift upgrades or costly and complex flexi-grid ROADMs, Coriant attests.

"As high-bandwidth end-user applications continue to drive higher and higher volumes of exchange traffic, we remain committed to enhancing our peering infrastructure to meet the evolving resiliency, security, and scalability needs of our members," said Cristóbal López Cañas, ESpanix manager. "As we looked to scale our backbone to support higher capacity services, the Coriant Groove G30 proved an ideal solution that consistently demonstrated a superior level of flexibility, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness over comparable offerings."

Coriant's Groove is also being used by INEX, the internet peering point for the island of Ireland, and peering service provider France-IX (see "Ireland's INEX uses Coriant Groove G30 for scalable high-speed service" and "Coriant supplies Groove G30 to France-IX for optical transport network upgrades"). The Groove G30 platform will be on display at the ESNOG conference on April 9 in Barcelona.
