ElectroniCast Consultants has released a new market forecast of global fiber-optic circulator consumption in optical communications. The worldwide use of fiber-optic circulators is expected to reach $269.2 million this year, according to the study report.

ElectroniCast has segmented the fiber-optic circulator market based on device port counts. Configurations represented in the report are three ports, four ports, and more than four ports. Devices with three ports accounted for over 80% market share in 2017.

With a growth factor of 3X, ElectroniCast anticipates that private networks with expanding data centers will show the fastest annual growth of the consumption value of global fiber-optic circulators. Telecommunications, however, is positioned to continue leading market share throughout the forecast period, and the cable TV optical fiber structure is not far behind it, states ElectroniCast.

Research and development, medical, sensors, test equipment, oil/gas, and other specialty applications made up 6% of the relative market share in 2017. Although their share is decreasing versus 2017, the market research firm says that the Asia Pacific region (APAC) is the projected leader of the relative market share in 2018.

The worldwide use of fiber-optic circulators in optical communications has been steadily rising, reaching $244.5 million in 2014, an increase of 10.7% over the total consumption value of $227.4 million in 2013 ("ee “Worldwide use of fiber-optic circulators to hit $244.5M says ElectroniCast").

"The deployment of optical fiber in the metro/access, the continuing demand for upgrading networks to accommodate rapidly increasing bandwidth requirements, plus the need for additional monitoring and testing of the optical fiber networks will drive the steady consumption of fiber-optic circulators," said Stephen Montgomery, ElectroniCast Consultants principal analyst of the fiber-optic component group.
