AT&T touts more than 450,000 lit buildings in U.S.

Aug. 27, 2018
AT&T says its fiber-optic network now connects more than 450,000 business buildings in the U.S. That number of fiber connections enables AT&T Business to market its services to more than 2 million U.S. business customer locations within those buildings and more than 8 million business customer locations on or within 1,000 feet of the operator’s fiber network.

The operator markets several services to its business customers using the fiber connections:

  • AT&T Business Fiber, which provides data connectivity up to 1 Gbps.
  • AT&T Dedicated Internet, which offers dedicated throughput and consistent performance at symmetrical speeds of up to 1 Tbps.
  • AT&T Switched Ethernet Service, for multi-site Ethernet virtual private network (VPN) connections; AT&T Switched Ethernet Services with Network on Demand is software-defined to enable enterprises to scale bandwidth in near real time through a portal.
  • AT&T Dedicated Ethernet offers a low-latency, dedicated connection at speeds up to 100 Gbps.

AT&T markets these services directly as well as through partners in the AT&T Alliance Channel, AT&T Partner Exchange, and ACC Business programs. The company has held the top spot in Vertical Systems Group’s U.S. Fiber Lit Buildings Leaderboard for the last several years (see, for example, “AT&T, Verizon continue atop VSG 2017 U.S. Fiber Lit Buildings Leaderboard”).
