Altice Labs unveils OLTs for SFP dual GPON SFP, plus dual XGS-PON SFP+
Altice Labs, S.A has announced the development of dual GPON SFP and dual XGS-PON SFP+ optical transceivers at this week’s BBWF 2021 (Oct. 12-14) in Amsterdam.
As their names imply, each optical line terminal (OLT) optical module contains the capabilities of a pair of optical transceivers. The modules currently are in prototype.
Use of the dual optical transceivers will double the number of subscribers each OLT port can accommodate as well as the number of GPON and XGS-PON channels, respectively, each transceiver can accommodate.
They also will double the faceplate density of OLT line cards.
When using a 1:64 split ratio, the prototype optical transceivers support transmission distances over 20 km.
The modules are based a 2x10 SFP/SFP+ electrical interface, which Altice Labs says will enable the dual OLT modules to work on legacy GPON/XGS-PON systems but also enable multi-PON module line cards.
Altice Labs says the modules leverage “mature GPON and XGS-PON optical components.”
