NEC and NetCracker Technology, a BSS/OSS vendor and wholly owned NEC subsidiary, have launched a joint initiative to address the opportunities associated with software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) for communications service providers.

The joint initiative combines NEC's network technology and NetCracker's IT and telecom expertise to deliver SDN/NFV solutions in a multi-domain environment. The new business brand will be "NEC/NetCracker SDN/NFV Solutions" and will focus on joint R&D and solution development; dedicated account management and technical sales personnel from both companies to support commercial deployments and proof-of-concept trials; and standardization efforts.
