The development of standards for helping cable system networks withstand adverse natural events and sustain high levels of service will be the focus when the SCTE hosts a special standards session on Oct. 23 at Cable-Tec Expo 2013.The session, titled "Business Continuity and the Need for Highly Available Networks," will include a discussion of current and planned SCTE standardization and best-practice activities, as well as a panel of industry experts who will explore such topics as power reliability, dependency of Emergency Alert on network availability, business continuity planning, and crisis management. Panelists for the session will be:


  • Brian Allen, chief of security, Time Warner Cable


  • David Geary, director of engineering for the StarLine DC Solutions division of Universal Electric


  • Albert Straub, principal architect, Time Warner Cable
